How Odaje, formerly known as M. Moustache, achieved a 6% boost in conversion rates with Shopify

Created in 2012, Odaje (formerly M. Moustache) is the first circular footwear brand. Designed by their stylists in their Parisian workshop, their models are made from eco-friendly materials, LWG-certified leathers, and recycled materials. Odaje notably manufactures the soles of their sneakers by recycling used shoes collected in their stores, creating a closed-loop production system.

Despite its success, Odaje faced stability issues with their platform. These performance problems occurred mainly during peak periods, negatively affecting their conversion rate. Additionally, they wanted to unify their customer database across physical and online sales channels to provide a more consistent experience.

Since moving to Shopify Plus, Odaje has seen:

Challenge: Streamlining ecommerce and integrating operations

Before switching to Shopify, Odaje faced significant performance issues. The platform would slow down considerably or even crash during peak periods, such as sales events and the holiday season. This instability resulted in significant revenue losses and a degraded customer experience. Additionally, they needed to unify their customer database across physical and online sales channels to provide a more consistent and efficient experience.

Moreover, their previous ecosystem did not allow for unification of customer data between physical stores and the online shop, preventing consistent communication. The brand therefore needed a stable and scalable platform to handle traffic peaks and support their B2C expansion.

Solution: Empowering growth with Shopify

To streamline their operations and enhance their ecommerce performance, Odaje transitioned to Shopify in September 2023. The migration included a switch to the Shopify platform, implementing Shopify point-of-sale systems in stores, integrating a new CRM system, overhauling customer service processes, and improving logistics management, including handling returns.

We needed a site that could seamlessly handle new product launches and peak periods, while also unifying our customer base and inventory across our physical stores and online shop. Shopify was truly the ideal solution for us.

The migration to Shopify allowed Odaje to resolve the performance issues they previously encountered. Since the migration, they no longer experience bugs during peak periods and can better manage large volumes of traffic without interruptions. This has prevented any loss of revenue and significantly improved the customer experience.

Additionally, Shopify enabled Odaje to unify customer data across all channels from digital to in store. The holistic access to customer data enabled them to build a cohesive customer experience. This had a positive impact on their customer relationship management (CRM) and inventory management, allowing for better segmentation and personalized marketing. The unified database was instrumental in driving improved conversion rates.

To enhance their international sales, Odaje implemented Shopify's international sales tools in March 2023. This feature allowed them to offer localized pricing in multiple currencies, so customers can shop in their preferred currency. Implementing Shopify's international sales tools contributed to a 25% increase in international sales, and significantly enhanced the overall shopping experience.

Odaje also integrated Shopify POS across their 16 physical stores. This integration provided real-time stock updates and a seamless customer experience, ensuring that inventory levels were accurate and consistent whether customers shopped online or in-store. By synchronizing stock information, customers could check availability online before visiting a store, or even order online and pick up in-store, thus bridging the gap between in-store and online shopping. This cohesion was essential for maintaining consistent customer service and inventory management across all sales channels.

Automating complex ecommerce processes was another critical aspect of their transformation. Using Shopify Flow, Odaje managed commercial offers and streamlined order fulfillment. During the migration, Odaje also utilized Matrixify for database integration, ensuring all data was accurately transferred and easily accessible.
