We built Shop to deepen the relationship brands have with their customers, no matter where they are. The Shop app is now one of the most popular shopping apps in the US, connecting millions of mobile shoppers with Shopify merchants.
While we built Shop as a way for merchants to capitalize on the shift to native commerce, we also recognize that the desire to browse and purchase can come at any time: we shop when we see a great outfit on a TV show, when we walk by the window of a well- merchandised retail storefront, or when we are just taking a break from work. That's why we are bringing Shop and Shop Cash to the web, just in time for the holiday shopping season. Just like the Shop app, buyers will be able to discover products from Shopify merchants and speed through checkout with Shop Pay on the shop.app website.
Why now?
1. So merchants can reach Shop buyers wherever they are
With the Shop app and Shop on the web, we’re making it easier than ever for buyers to discover your store and products. Search and discovery on Shop used to require downloading an app, but now buyers will be able to browse and speed through checkout with Shop Pay on their desktop or mobile browsers. We will also improve conversion on your Shop store by syncing buyer activity across platforms, making it possible to add an item to cart on web and complete the checkout later on mobile.
2. To boost the impact of Shop Cash and offers
Since the introduction of Shop Cash back in June, there has been a huge demand for more ways to spend Shop Cash. US-based buyers earn 1% Shop Cash on all eligible Shop Pay purchases and they want more ways to spend and boost their rewards. Until now, they have been limited to spending their Shop Cash in the app.
Starting today, buyers can spend their Shop Cash on shop.app website, unlocking millions of dollars of Shop Cash that’s already in circulation. Buyers can now sign in to Shop on the web to view their Shop Cash balance and discover personalized offers. We are excited that the launch of Shop on the web will give even more visibility and sales volume for Shopify merchants.
All of this comes ahead of the busiest shopping season of the year, when more buyers than ever will be earning Shop Cash and looking for new merchants to support.
