A subculture fashion brand that bills itself as a “creative collective of artists,” Brain Dead recognized the need for change. The challenge? Improve its website’s user experience, performance, and navigation while maintaining the brand’s disruptive graphic aesthetic.

When choosing an agency partner, Brain Dead landed on digital studio NodNod for its blend of design and development expertise. Shopify’s Ben Sehl sat down with the agency’s co-founder and CTO Alexandro Priftuli to discuss how his team revamped their client’s storefront.

Brain Dead’s site was already built on Liquid, Shopify’s templating language, when NodNod entered the picture. “They wanted to continue to have a self-managed platform,” says Alexandro. “The flexibility of Liquid lets you do that.”

In the storefront redesign, NodNod’s team focused heavily on performance. This not only refers to site speed but also perceived performance via design-centric choices that improve the user experience. “It's not just about hacking down that number, it's about the overall feeling of the page,” says Ben.

Watch Shopify’s interview with NodNod and learn how the agency helped Brain Dead streamline their high-traffic weekly product drops and create a self-managed Liquid storefront that can scale with the brand.
