Retro meets retail: Weezer and Shop unveil shoppable arcade game

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their triple-platinum ‘Blue Album,’ Shop collaborated with Weezer to build a shoppable arcade game. This game blended the nostalgia of a classic arcade with a modern twist—players could unlock exclusive Weezer merchandise in the Shop app based on their scores.

Three decades of ‘Blue’ deserved something new

Weezer wanted to unveil their Blue 30 Anniversary Collection in a unique way that resonated with fans, giving their biggest supporters the chance to shop limited-edition items.

An innovative take on classic gaming

Weezer teamed up with Shop to generate buzz for their anniversary tour by introducing Sweater Saga, a fully-shoppable arcade game.

The game was located at Brooklyn Projects, a Los Angeles skate shop close to where Weezer lived and practiced 30 years ago. It offered every player a chance to win, with higher scores unlocking more exclusive merchandise. After players completed the game and received their scores, they scanned a unique QR code that launched the Shop app on their phones. Some players won Shop Cash to spend on Weezer’s new collection, while higher-scoring players unlocked free, limited-edition Weezer shirts, skate decks, and more.

The Sweater Saga continues

Weezer and Shop announced the shoppable arcade game through social posts, sparking a wave of excitement. Fans flocked to Brooklyn Projects to try it firsthand, where they could experience Weezer in a tangible way while getting rewarded through the Shop app. They could unlock products and check out in just one tap for a fast, fun, seamless experience.

This fusion of in-person gaming and online shopping meant even more to the die-hard fans. They unlocked one-of-a-kind merchandise by playing more, rather than paying more. By partnering with Shop, Weezer celebrated their 30-year-old album by connecting with their community in a whole new way.
