About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About you

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:
  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work

About the role

Shopify is seeking a Marketing Operations Lead to build systems to drive efficiency and effectiveness of the Core Product Marketing team. Responsible for owning the planning and execution for product marketing; overseeing high-priority programs; and designing processes and practices that will allow the team to scale adoption and growth for core products.

The successful candidate is an innovative, collaborative operations lead who can influence senior marketers, operations teams, and product teams to deliver high-impact marketing communications that support the product and deliver measurable results to the business. They will have the right mix of marketing, creative, and operations experience to ensure the Core PMM team is a well-oiled machine – with clear priorities, reduced toil and duplication, and feels like one team despite the decentralized organization structure.

What you’ll work on:

  • Long-Term Marketing Planning: Collaborate with Core Marketing Leads to establish strategic marketing plans.

  • Championing Major Initiatives: Drive the implementation of major projects and alignment frameworks within the Marketing team, managing necessary documentation, automating functions to reduce toil, and facilitating cross-functional collaboration.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact, effectively liaising with stakeholders throughout the Shopify organization.

  • Streamlining operations: Analyze opportunities to streamline marketing work across product teams (e.g. migrations.)

  • Team Rituals Establishment: Create and maintain regular team rituals to enhance collaboration and alignment.

  • Program management: Implement and manage seasonal and one-off programs (.dev content)

  • Risk and Dependency Management: Identify and manage risks and dependencies within your portfolio, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines, deliverables, and team resources.

  • Data Collection and Goal Tracking: Enable effective data collection on major initiatives to ensure projects meet their objectives.

You'll need to have:

  • Background in Marketing Operations: Proven experience in marketing strategy and operational excellence.

  • Compelling Storytelling Skills: Ability to present persuasive, data-driven narratives.

  • Analytical Perspective: Track record of synthesizing diverse inputs and developing strategic viewpoints on broad business issues.

  • Stakeholder Partnership: Ability to effectively collaborate with and influence senior stakeholders across various disciplines.

  • Clear Communication: Use transparent communication with all stakeholders to maintain trust throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Adaptability: Thrive in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments.

  • Project Management Expertise: Proven ability to successfully manage the portfolio, including workbacks, project workbooks, budgets, and asset trackers.

  • Innovative Thinking: Ability to think creatively and resourcefully in bringing ideas to fruition.

  • AI Experience: Experience with building systems to remove toil with the use of AI.
