About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About you

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:
  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work

About the role

At Shopify we believe in making commerce better for everyone including entrepreneurs and enterprise brands alike. We do this by providing the scalability, reliability and flexibility merchants need to build, grow, adapt and evolve their business. For the enterprise, Shopify powers commerce for notable brands like AllBirds, Gymshark, Staples and more. Our enterprise solutions teams work directly with brands like these to help them develop and drive their commerce strategies.

This is where the Demo Engineering role comes in, working closely with Sales, Product, Engineering and prospective enterprise brands to provide critical support in the closure of new business. Demo Engineers develop strategic tools and conceptual solutions that are designed to wow merchants, thus accelerating their realization of what’s possible with Shopify.

As a Demo Engineer you'll do things like:

  • Build and design merchant-facing experiences using Shopify

  • Develop dynamic product demonstrations and prototypes

  • Work on tooling and automation projects to streamline workflows

  • Collaborate with global sales teams and contribute to an agile team environment

  • Build assets that help close deals and drive new revenue to help scale a rapidly growing sales organization

  • Play a critical role in defining our technical sales strategy

  • Communicate feedback to Product teams to influence our roadmap

  • Learn transferable skills that will benefit a career in Product, Engineering, Sales and more

Here’s what you can expect:

  • This is a dedicated software engineering role

  • A collaborative, creative work environment where experimentation and learning are encouraged

  • Autonomy and the opportunity to grow and learn from each new challenge

  • A culture that values authenticity, openness and diversity

Your experience looks like:

  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or similar experience

  • 1-2+ years developing with Shopify Liquid

  • 2-4+ years HTML/CSS/JS and common languages (e.g. React, NodeJS, Python)

  • Strong front-end design skills, with experience in styling templated pages and creating visually appealing layouts

  • Ability to make design decisions that balance aesthetics with expectations, with a keen eye for detail and presentation

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and re-prioritize on an ongoing basis

  • Thrives in a collaborative environment with different stakeholders to build merchant-facing experiences

  • Enjoys working with a diverse group of people with different areas of expertise and backgrounds

Bonus if you have:

  • E-commerce experience or background working with brands or agencies

  • Experience communicating complex products and features to non-technical audiences

  • Familiarity with GraphQL and Shopify Storefront APIs

  • Knowledge of product catalogs, subscriptions, bundles or other relevant concepts
