About the role
Our sales teams work directly with notable brands and entrepreneurs to develop their commerce strategies — whether that is starting or expanding their e-commerce or brick & mortar operations.
We’re looking for highly motivated sales professionals to join our team as an Account Executive on our SMB Retail Acquisition team! This role offers a unique opportunity to build a rewarding career with a company that values growth and provides continuous opportunities for advancement.
Role Overview:
As an Account Executive on the SMB retail Acquisition team, you will play a crucial role in driving new business opportunities and expanding our reach within the SMB market in major cities. This position is designed for sales professionals who are passionate about helping smaller businesses grow and succeed.
To succeed in this role, candidates must be able to source their own sales opportunities and navigate large organizations with multiple stakeholders for the duration of the entire sales cycle. Leveraging your depth of selling experience, you’ll also have the opportunity to influence Shopify’s broader Revenue organization (i.e. mentorship, methodologies, strategy) as we experiment and explore new ways to reach more merchants. You’ll strengthen the value of partnerships internally and harness those partnerships to transform the business of our merchants. We're searching for candidates located in the following cities: Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, Boston, Tampa, Houston, Philadelphia, Miami, Phoenix, Atlanta, Washington
and Seattle.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage with prospects to understand their unique business goals, challenges, and needs, providing tailored Shopify solutions to help them grow.
Develop and implement strategic plans to identify and target potential customers within the SMB segment.
Lead high-volume outreach efforts through calls, emails, and social media to qualify leads and generate interest in Shopify’s offerings.
Manage a comprehensive sales cycle from initial contact through contract signature, maintaining an accurate pipeline of opportunities.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, solution engineering, and customer success, to enhance client engagements and outcomes.
Stay informed about the latest product features, industry trends, and market dynamics to provide the best possible advice and service to merchants.
Actively source and build your sales pipeline, demonstrating a proactive approach to forecasting and setting priorities.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Proven experience in a closing sales role or Sales Development Role, with a strong track record of successfully acquiring new business and exceeding sales targets, specifically within the SMB segment.
Demonstrated passion for hunting and acquiring new business, with a consultative and solutions-oriented mindset.
Ability to navigate complex sales cycles and engage with multiple stakeholders, including C-level executives.
Experience with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and familiarity with sales engagement platforms preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building trusting relationships and effectively conveying the value of Shopify’s offerings.
Self-motivated and driven by results, with the tenacity to pursue leads and close deals.
Comfortable with outbound prospecting and cultivating a territory to build a robust sales pipeline.

Bonus experience
Experience working in New Business Sales & Sales Development
Experience selling or in depth knowledge of one or more of the following industries: Ecommerce, Fintech, Retail, Hospitality
Previous experience selling POS systems is a plus
Experience with MEDDICC, BANT, and Challenger sales methodologies is a plus
Experience managing a specific territory
